New Gym - 1st Day

A HUGE thank you for everyone that made it to the first official day of training in our new gym!

As a reminder our new place is at 1521 Cooper St, right behind the Zip Trip gas station.

There are 8 parking spaces on the Cooper St. side, and we have permission to use the Zip Trip parking lot as long as we take the furthest away spots (which works out perfect, since these are the spots closest to the gym).

Please pardon the dust over the next few weeks as we get everything situated.

Again, thank you to everyone and we look forward to seeing you all on the mats!

Changes to Wednesday Classes

Hi Guys,

We’ll be changing things up on Wednesday through the summer.

Fundamentals classes will go on as usual, but we’ll be changing the format of the all-levels class afterward to be more of an open mat (pretty much how we did it last year). Expect lots of rolls and lots of positional drilling!

It's No Gi Season!

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick note to let you all know that we’ll be starting no-gi this week due to it being summer and it’s friggin’ hot outside!

Keep bringing your belts so I can still give you your hard-earned stripes :)

Gi will start up again around September once it starts to cool down.

You are welcome to bring your gi to open mat classes if anyone wants to train gi as well.

The schedule is posted here, check often for any updates!

Missoula Tourney Cancelled

Hey Guys,

Grappling Industries had scheduled their 3rd annual Garden City Classic in May, but they have since cancelled that event. Just letting you know since I know a lot of you were looking forward to it, especially those of you looking to enter your first tournament.

There are still tourneys in Spokane, Bozeman, Billings, and other places (kind of) around the area if you’re still jonesing for competition. I’ll post anything else I find out!

Looking to get started in jiu jitsu? Check out our schedule and join in on a class!

Women's Only Classes

For those who don’t know already, we have women’s only classes starting up! Check out the schedule for current times.

These classes are taught by resident brown belt Amy Pavlock (pictured on the far right) and will cover all levels. There will also be a heavy emphasis on self-defense techniques as opposed to “pure” sport jiu jitsu.

As interest grows, we will be adding more time slots. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any time slot suggestions!

We're Getting a New Gym!

Hey Team!

A lot of you know this by now, but I’m so excited to announce that we’re finally getting our own dedicated training space!

The gym is located on Toole Ave. right behind the Cenex station (right where Toole merges into Broadway).

The official move-in date is September 1st. Stay tuned for updates!

We Have A Purple Belt!

Congratulations Robert Domenech on becoming Zoo BJJ’s first purple belt promotion! Rob’s actually gotten a stripe put on that belt now, but he is no less deserving of finally getting some recognition.

Rob’s been training martial arts longer than a lot of us have even been alive, and his experience, patience, and all-around good-guy demeanor have been a tremendous asset to our team!

Thanks for training with us Rob, and we look forward to having you around for a long time!!

Our First Purple Belt!

Our First Purple Belt!

Lauren Wolfe, Blue Beast

The belts just keep coming! Well, actually, it’s been a bit, but Lauren Wolfe deserves the recognition all the same. This pic below was taken in late August at the IBJJF tourney in Las Vegas.

I can’t think of many other people so deserving of their promotion. Lauren has been a fierce training partner, and a class act off the mat!

She’s also got two MMA fights under her belt, with one of them a stone-cold KO victory!

A huge (super belated) congratulations, Lauren!

Sweet Threads

We got new shirts!

Everyone who wanted one should have gotten theirs by now. If you still haven’t, let me know and I’ll see if we have any left.

Thanks Lauren for showing off our new shirt design!

Thanks Lauren for showing off our new shirt design!

Congratulations Gus, our latest blue belt!

A HUGE congratulations goes out to Gus Seward, our latest belt promotion!

Gus actually received his belt after the Helena tourney (yep, I’m playing a bit of catch-up here), and he truly deserves it.

Gus has been a tremendous teammate and a super great guy to train with.

Congratulations again Gus, sorry for the delay, and keep on training!

Great job, Gus!

Great job, Gus!

Helena Tourney Results (From October)

Hey Everyone,

It occurs to me that I never actually posted the results from our Zoo BJJ team from last October’s Helena tournament. My bad!

We had 5 total competitors (2 kids, 3 adults) who all walked out with some hardware!

Ryder Seward: Gi - Bronze; No Gi - Bronze

Keilan Schertz: Gi -Silver

Tanner Schroeder: Gi - Gold; No Gi - 4th

Davis Diede: Gi - Bronze; No Gi - Bronze

Gus Seward: No Gi - Bronze

Congratulations everyone, you represented us well!

Thank you Steve!

Just a quick post to say a huge thank you to Steve Maxwell and everyone who came out to support him and us during his seminar on January 26th.

He taught us a ton during about proper mobility, breathing, Gracie basics, and just about everything important to the BJJ lifestyle. You can roll ‘til you’re 70 and Steve is (almost) proof of that! Train smart, listen to your body, and remember what he taught us!

Flavio Behring Seminar in Bozeman

Hey Guys,

I’m just posting this here in case anyone is interested. Grandmaster Flavio Behring will be putting on a tournament and seminar in Bozeman next week. Thanksgiving Hours

Hi all!

Just a quick note to let you all know that we won’t be having class Wednesday and Thursday, November 21 and 22 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Stay home, hang out with family, and we’ll see you all again on Friday!

Tournament in Helena, Oct. 20th

Hey Guys,

A lot of you have already expressed interest in this already, but there is a BJJ tournament going on in Helena on October 20th. The cost is $79 and will get you in to both the gi and no-gi divisions.

There will be men’s, women’s, and kid’s brackets across all weight divisions, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each division getting a sweet medal!

You don’t have to weigh in with the gi, but it would still be a good idea to keep your weight in check for the division that you want to sign up for.

This is a great opportunity to get a lot of competition matches in for a relatively cheap price. I highly encourage all of you that can make it to be there!

Training No-Gi for the Summer

Hey Everyone,

We're in the dog days of summer now and it's getting HOT!  So we all don't just melt off the mats, we'll be training no-gi for the foreseeable future.

You are of course welcome to bring your gi if you would like, but it won't be required.

As always, you are welcome to email us at info@zoobjj.com if you have any questions.

Thanks all and we'll see you on the mats!

Zoo BJJ Closed 4th of July Week

Hey Everyone,

This is just a quick post to remind/let you all know that Zoo BJJ will be closed from July 1st to July 7th as most people will be out of town celebrating the holiday.

Regular training times will still be open if you and a few others still want to get together and train.  Contact one of the blue belts to see if a group is planning on showing up.

Thank you everybody and we'll see you next week!

New Blue Belt Promotions!!

A HUGE congratulations goes out to our latest blue belts, Johan and Katie Erikkson!  Your dedication and commitment have been second to none and we are so proud of your accomplishments!

Have fun in Sweden, and we'll see you both in January!
